📰 News we're reading
• Executive Report: Tulare County Flood Control Commission, 2026 (wordpress.com) — Tulare County's flood commission warns that aging pumps, tight finances, and shaky FEMA support leave communities vulnerable just as a possible super El Niño looms. For Strathmore, engineers recommend bigger storm drains and new ponding basins near the Friant-Kern Canal to handle a 25‑year storm, but the project is stalled while agencies sort out funding and approvals. Residents should watch closely, since these decisions affect local flooding, insurance risk, and future development around town.
• Full Analysis and Report: Porterville City Council Candidates Forum (September 29, 2026) (wordpress.com) — Porterville's latest city council forum laid out competing visions on roads, homelessness, public safety, and economic growth that directly affect nearby communities from Springville to Strathmore. Candidates clashed over how aggressively to enforce anti-camping rules, whether to expand recycled water projects, and how to fund major infrastructure like bridges and a new library. For Strathmore-area residents who shop, work, or study in Porterville, these choices will shape services, jobs, and regional investment for years.
