Campbell Hall Sophomore Injured at Crosswalk; Krekorian Looks Into It
Student reportedly suffers broken collarbone, other injuries after being hit by car Tuesday morning.
A high school student from in Studio City was struck by a car and injured Tuesday morning, and Los Angeles City Councilman Paul Krekorian is looking into whether there needs to be more signage in the area for the safety of the students.
The male sophomore was hit while crossing Laurel Canyon Boulevard at about 8:24 a.m. His name was not released because he is a minor. He was transported to Cedars-Sinai Medical Center and suffered a broken collar bone, dislocated shoulder and arm and some cuts and bruises, according to school officials.
Geoff Yazzetta, who is the Studio City district representative for Krekorian, told the Studio City Neighborhood Council Wednesday night, “This young gentleman is pretty lucky. He is in good spirits and will be OK.”

The accident occurred just south of the 101 (Ventura) Freeway by a southbound car in the lane closest to the median. The Los Angeles Police Department’s Valley Traffic Division is investigating the accident. No one has been charged, and the driver did not flee the scene, police said.
Students are known to park across the street in the residential area on Sarah Street across Laurel Canyon Boulevard from Campbell Hall and walk across through an alley and across the street.

Krekorian’s office will be checking to see if there was enough signage and crosswalks in the area. There is a massive construction project going on at the school for an Arts & Education Center that will include 200 underground parking spaces, and a piping project also is being put in nearby.
“It’s another reason to be especially cautious driving in the area, and to slow down,” Yazzetta said.
Yazzetta said the San Fernando Valley has experienced a spike in traffic-related accidents, which is sparking new safety procedures. For example, in August, Krekorian unveiled a at an intersection at Laurel Canyon and Archwood Street where 12-year-old was struck and killed in 2010.
Krekorian is also rolling out, with LAPD, throughout the San Fernando Valley. Krekorian joined the parents of a 16-year-old Notre Dame student who was struck and killed by a car last year on Woodman Avenue in Sherman Oaks. Jeri Dye and Mark Lynch, the parents of the youth, have established a nonprofit organization, the Conor Lynch Foundation, to promote awareness and safety for pedestrians, runners, cyclists and young drivers.
