Tonight’s Jam’ n Java online celebrates the life and legacy of the late trumpet master Harry Kim to honor his “Heavenly Birthday”.
Harry Kim was a beloved professional musician, who worked closely with Phil Collins. His illustrious work can be heard on Phil Collins’ award-winning album, "…But Seriously”.
Harry Kim founded “The Vine Street Horns”, toured with Phil Collins on his 18 month “Both Sides” tour and was instrumental in creating “The Phil Collins Big Band”, performing jazzy versions of “Genesis” songs as well as Phil Collins hits.
Harry Kim served as music director and arranger and performed alongside Phil Collins, Quincy Jones and Tony Bennett on tour. Harry Kim and “The Vine Street Horns” can be heard on the Phill Collins album “Dance Into the Light” and the subsequent world tour.
When it came to commanding horn sections, Harry Kim was among the best of the very best.
His versatile skills were called upon by top tier performers including Stevie Wonder, The Four Tops, Arthea Franklin, Tito Puente, Celia Cruz, Marvin Gaye, The Temptations and Smokey Robinson, to name a few.
Harry Kim was an integral part of the “Phenix Horns”, the world- renowned horn section for the legendary band “Earth, Wind and Fire”.
Harry Kim excelled in many genres of music and was highly regarded for his interpretations of rhythm and blues, jazz and funk.
The coveted trumpet player was frequently called upon to direct, arrange and perform on television shows such as “American Idol” and “America’s Got Talent”. Harry Kim took part in the Emmy Award-winning Motown 25th Anniversary Special, alongside Michael Jackson, who made musical history taking his inaugural “Moonwalk”.
Harry Kim was a dear friend of Jam’ n Java host Robby Robinson of Frankie Valli and the Four Seasons.
Tonight’s “Heavenly Birthday Tribute” to Harry Kim will be a beautiful recollection of a once-in-a-lifetime talent, who was not only gifted, but more importantly a true gentleman and a stellar human being.
“Tonight, on Jam' n Java, we’ll celebrate the life and music of my dear friend 𝐇𝐚𝐫𝐫𝐲 𝐊𝐢𝐦, who would have turned 75 this past Friday. Harry and I shared more than 30 years of friendship - hundreds, if not thousands, of gigs, sessions, meals, laughs and memories. But beyond being a dear friend, Harry was simply one of the finest musicians I’ve ever known.” said Jam’ n Java host Robby Robinson. “Monday night I’ll share some very special moments from Harry’s 𝐂𝐞𝐥𝐞𝐛𝐫𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐨𝐟 𝐋𝐢𝐟𝐞, along with music, memories and rare footage from through the years. This is going to be a very special evening honoring an extraordinary musician — and an even more extraordinary human being.”
