Tommy John is a name synonymous with baseball.
If you know anything about baseball...you know the name Tommy John.
But...how much do you really know about the man himself?
Tommy John was so much more than a baseball player who had an operation named after him.
Thanks to Robby Robinson, who composed the musical score, for the forthcoming new Tommy John documentary, you will know everything you ever wanted to know about the man, the myth and the legend...Tommy John...but most importantly you will come away with a deeper appreciation of Tommy John the Man.
Tonight’s “Jam’ n Java” tribute to Tommy John will take you beyond the 288 career wins spanning 26 Major League Baseball Seasons, four All-Star selections, accolades, awards and honors and help you discover Tommy John...the human being...whose heart and soul was bigger than anything he accomplished in his earthly lifetime.
Tommy John was so much more than his sports accomplishments...he was a humble man of faith...and a human being just like the rest of us...who used his God-given talents to contribute to the sports world...and shared his abundance of earthly blessings to help others and leave the world a better place than he found it.
“It’s been only a few days since we lost Tommy, and there have understandably been tributes throughout the baseball world to one of the great pitchers of his generation — 𝟐𝟖𝟖 𝐰𝐢𝐧𝐬, 𝟐𝟔 𝐌𝐚𝐣𝐨𝐫 𝐋𝐞𝐚𝐠𝐮𝐞 𝐬𝐞𝐚𝐬𝐨𝐧𝐬, 𝐟𝐨𝐮𝐫 𝐀𝐥𝐥-𝐒𝐭𝐚𝐫 𝐬𝐞𝐥𝐞𝐜𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐬, 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐚 𝐧𝐚𝐦𝐞 𝐭𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐰𝐢𝐥𝐥 𝐟𝐨𝐫𝐞𝐯𝐞𝐫 𝐛𝐞 𝐩𝐚𝐫𝐭 𝐨𝐟 𝐛𝐚𝐬𝐞𝐛𝐚𝐥𝐥 𝐡𝐢𝐬𝐭𝐨𝐫𝐲. But this Monday night on Jam'n Java, I want to remember something more. 𝐈 𝐰𝐚𝐧𝐭 𝐭𝐨 𝐫𝐞𝐦𝐞𝐦𝐛𝐞𝐫 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐓𝐨𝐦𝐦𝐲 𝐉𝐨𝐡𝐧 𝐈 𝐤𝐧𝐞𝐰. Tommy was my friend. Over the years, he joined me several times on Jam’n Java. 𝐖𝐞 𝐡𝐮𝐧𝐠 𝐨𝐮𝐭... he came to concerts, we dined together — and we TALKED! (𝑇𝑜𝑚𝑚𝑦 𝑐𝑜𝑢𝑙𝑑 𝑡𝑎𝑙𝑘!) We talked about baseball, of course — but also about life, faith, family, perseverance, and the remarkable journey that made Tommy who he was.”, said Robby Robinson. “I also had the privilege of composing the music for a documentary about Tommy’s extraordinary life. The film hasn’t been released yet, but I’m especially grateful today that 𝐓𝐨𝐦𝐦𝐲 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐂𝐡𝐞𝐫𝐲𝐥 𝐡𝐚𝐝 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐨𝐩𝐩𝐨𝐫𝐭𝐮𝐧𝐢𝐭𝐲 𝐭𝐨 𝐬𝐞𝐞 𝐢𝐭. That means even more to me now. Tonight, we’ll revisit some wonderful moments with Tommy, share stories and memories, hear from some special guests, and celebrate a man whose legacy reaches far beyond the pitcher’s mound. Yes, Tommy John changed baseball. His name became synonymous with the surgery that has given countless athletes a 𝐬𝐞𝐜𝐨𝐧𝐝 𝐜𝐡𝐚𝐧𝐜𝐞 at their careers. But those of us fortunate enough to know him knew something else: 𝐓𝐨𝐦𝐦𝐲 𝐉𝐨𝐡𝐧 𝐰𝐚𝐬 𝐦𝐮𝐜𝐡 𝐦𝐨𝐫𝐞 𝐭𝐡𝐚𝐧 𝐚 𝐛𝐚𝐬𝐞𝐛𝐚𝐥𝐥 𝐥𝐞𝐠𝐞𝐧𝐝. 𝐇𝐞 𝐰𝐚𝐬 𝐚 𝐠𝐨𝐨𝐝 𝐦𝐚𝐧, 𝐚 𝐦𝐚𝐧 𝐨𝐟 𝐟𝐚𝐢𝐭𝐡, 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐚 𝐝𝐞𝐚𝐫 𝐟𝐫𝐢𝐞𝐧𝐝. I hope you’ll join me as we celebrate his remarkable life and legacy.”
