Ex-NFLer Jonathan Martin Charged For Threat To Harvard-Westlake

Police expect Harvard-Westlake alumnus and former Dolphin Jonathan Martin to surrender in connection with a threat that shut the school.

LOS ANGELES, CA — Controversial former NFL player Jonathan Martin is expected to surrender to police Tuesday in connection with a social media post perceived as a shooting threat against Harvard-Westlake, the Studio City prep school he attended before he was drafted.

An arrest warrant has been issued for Martin, and police have been working with his attorney to arrange his surrender, the Los Angeles Police Department confirmed to the Los Angeles Times. Charges have already been filed against Martin, 28. TMZ, which broke the story, reported that Martin has been charged with four felony counts of making criminal threats as well as a single misdemeanor count of carrying a loaded firearm in public after investigators found in his possession an ax, a large knife, and a loaded 12-gauge shotgun -- when he was briefly detained on February 23, the same day he allegedly made the threat.

An Instagram post on Martin's account prompted authorities to close Harvard-Westlake for the day as a precaution.

The image shows a picture of a rifle with "#HarvardWestlake" and "MiamiDolphins" emblazoned over the gun. Next to the gun is a quote: "When you're a bully victim & a coward, your options are suicide, or revenge."

Martin was at the center of the Miami Dolphins "Bullygate" scandal in 2013 in which he accused his teammates of bullying him. The Instagram threat includes the names of the teammates Martin accused of harassing him. The scandal led to the suspension of teammate Richie Incognito, who Martin accused of harassment. Incognito is tagged in the Instagram threat along with Mike Poucey. Also tagged is James Dunleavy, who azcentral.com reports attended Harvard-Westlake and USC.
