It Starts With a Soothing Foot Massage

Chinese-style foot-massage parlors are popping up all over the San Fernando Valley. But unless you personally try one or get a referral, it's tough to pick one. Most range in price from $20 to $30.  One of the standouts I've come across is Foot Inspiration in Sherman Oaks, located in the corner strip mall at Beverly Glen and Ventura.

At $27 an hour, it’s affordable—and more than just a foot massage, your entire body is actually massaged—with your clothes on. It's the perfect quick getaway   for solo "me" time or with a date or significant other.

The atmosphere inside Foot Inspiration is very spa-like with dim lighting, soft background music and pleasantly scented candles.  It's a large communal space with eight recliner chairs that each fold into massage tables,  divided into areas by small bamboo walls. Ask for the two  chairs in the back if you're on a date night and want more privacy.

After being quietly settled in a chair, your feet are first soaked in a plastic-lined wood tub with hot water. While your feet soak,  your head, neck and arms are massaged using reflexology (all technicians have certification).  Then, your feet are taken out of the tub and massaged for about 30 minutes.  That is followed by another back, leg and head massage. They do manipulate your clothing in order to give a proper massage so it is best to wear a light T-shirt or tank top. 

Foot Inspiration also offers a good incentive deal for return business. Buy five massages and get one free. Or give a massage as a gift to someone in need of quick de-stress time.

After the massage, pop over to Frootsii, a couple of doors down, for boba drinks, frozen yogurt and cupcakes.  My favorite drink? The Lavendar Milk Frappe.
