Playboy Model Dani Mathers Ordered To Stand Trial In Body-Shaming Incident

Former Playmate of the Year Dani Mathers faces freeway cleanup work if convicted of Snapchatting a photo of a naked woman at her gym shower.

LOS ANGELES, CA — Dani Mathers, Playboy’s 2015 Playmate of the Year, is due back in court this week after being ordered to stand trial for criminal invasion of privacy.

The Tarzana native took a picture of a 70-year-old woman in the shower of a Playa Vista gym locker room and posted it on social media last year. Now she could be sentenced to community service with Caltrans if convicted of the misdemeanor.

Mathers took the picture in an LA Fitness shower and posted it on Snapchat with the caption, "If I can't unsee this then you can't either." The backlash was swift, earning Mathers a lifetime ban from all LA Fitness locations. Soon after, Mathers was suspended from her job on the "Heidi and Frank" radio show on L.A.'s KLOS.

Last week, an attorney for the Playboy model argued that the charged should be dropped because Mathers’ body-shaming victim wasn’t easily identifiable from the photo, according to the Los Angeles Times. However, the judge didn’t buy it. Mathers was ordered to stand trial and to return to court this Wednesday for a pretrial hearing.

In the wake of the firestorm, Mathers attempted an apology of sorts. The nude model went back onto Snapchat with a video, insisting she is not the kind of person who would ever body shame anyone and the photo was "accidentally" posted.

She did not say the caption she wrote was "accidentally" written.

“I just wanted to acknowledge a photo that I accidentally posted on Snapchat earlier today and let you guys know that that was absolutely wrong, and not what I meant to do. I have chosen to do what I do for a living because I love the female body and I know that body shaming is wrong and that’s not what I’m about, that’s not the type of person that I am,” said Mathis.

“That photo was taken to be a personal conversation with a girlfriend, and because I am new to Snapchat, I really didn’t realize that I had posted it and that was a huge mistake. I know that I have upset a lot of people out there, but please, please believe me when I say that this is not the type of person I am. I have never done this before. I will never do this again.
