Student Struck By Car Outside Studio City School
A boy was struck by a car outside Walter Reed Middle School Monday, and shaken parents are calling for safety improvements.

STUDIO CITY, CA — A student from Walter Reed Middle School in Studio City was hit by a car just off campus after school let out Monday afternoon.
Police and paramedics were called to the intersection of Moorpark Street and Irvine Avenue at 3:11 p.m. Monday, said Los Angeles Fire Department spokesman Brian Humphreys. The student was transported to a nearby hospital with injuries that aren’t considered life-threatening. The driver remained at the scene and no arrests were made, according Officer Mike Lopez of the Los Angeles Police Department.
The crash happened at a busy intersection as students were leaving school for the day. It was a traumatic incident for parents and students who witnessed the crash.

“ I was parked on Moorpark and Irvine when I saw a backpack fly up into the street. I saw a few people run. I ran too,” said Karen Eisenberg, who witnessed the incident. “This poor boy was curled up in the fetal position with red bloody bruises all over his face. He barely moved and did not speak. The car that hit him was dented.”
It’s not the first time that a student has been hit in that area, said Eisenberg, who worries it won’t be the last time either.

“Even as a few of us kneeled by him while we waited for the LAFD, cars sped by and honked at us,” she said in an email. “This crosswalk does NOT have a light or a crossing guard. It is extremely dangerous. Just a few years ago, two twin girls were hit walking home from the same school. The city and the school must do something to ensure a senseless tragedy like this does not happen again.”
