Assemblymember Frazier Receives 2015 Sisyphus Award

Award from the Self-Help Counties Coalition recognizes 'those who work infinitely and tirelessly to improve transportation on all fronts.'

This week, Assemblymember Jim Frazier, D–Solano, was honored with the 2015 Sisyphus Award at the Self-Help Counties Coalition’s (SHCC) β€œFocus on the Future” Conference in Newport Beach.

β€œI am honored to accept the second annual Sisyphus Award from the SHCC,” said Assemblymember Frazier. β€œSelf-help counties are integral in creating safe and cutting edge transportation solutions for California. As Chair of the Assembly Transportation Committee, I will continue to bolster self-help counties so that they can advance their innovative methods to improve our state’s transportation infrastructure.”

The Sisyphus Award is a reference to the mythological Greek King, Sisyphus, who was punished by Zeus for thinking he was more clever than the king of the gods. For eternity, Sisyphus was condemned to push an enormous stone up a hill, only to have it roll back down before he could complete the task. Thus, according to the coalition, β€œthe award is given to those who work infinitely and tirelessly to improve transportation on all fronts.”

Throughout California, 19 county transportation agencies have formed the SHCC, including Contra Costa and Sacrmaneto counties, both of which are part of Frazier’s district. Each county delivers voter-approved (by super-majority) transportation sales tax measures that fund transit, highway, freight, bicycle, pedestrian and other mobility programs. Together, these counties provide $3 to $4 billion each year into California’s transportation infrastructure, creating jobs, expanding mobility and enhancing local communities and the environment.
