Best of Show from Suisun Valley

Assemblymember Jim Frazier greets Suisun Valley winners of 2016 State Fair olive oil competition

SACRAMENTO (June 23, 2016) – Two olive oils with roots in Assembly District 11 have won Best of Show awards at the 2016 California State Fair, according to Assemblymember Jim Frazier, D-Oakley, who was on hand to greet the winners when they were presented this morning at the State Capitol.

In the Flavored Olive Oil category, Il Fiorello Olive Oil Co., based in rural Fairfield, took the top award for its Diavolo Co-Milled Oil. The company is owned and operated by Ann and Mark Sievers (pictured with Assemblymember Frazier).

In the Extra Virgin Olive Oil category, Napa-based KATZ company, owned by Albert and Kim Katz, took Best of Show for its Organic Chef’s Pick Extra Virgin Olive Oil, produced from its Suisun Valley groves.

“It’s great when hard-working, family-owned businesses receive the recognition they deserve for creating top-quality products,” Frazier said. “I’m also happy to see that Suisun Valley’s rich agricultural heritage continues to thrive, thanks to families like the Sievers and Katz, who have chosen to invest in the area.”

Judging for the State Fair olive oil competition took place March 30. Judges examined 191 oils, up 36 percent from the 140 entered in 2015, the competition's inaugural year. California Extra Virgin Olive Oil is one of the state’s fastest growing agricultural industries.
