Bicyclist Killed In Crash That Closed Portion Of Hwy 12

A separate accident took place on the opposite side of the roadway Tuesday evening. [Breaking]

SOLANO COUNTY, CA – A bicyclist was killed Tuesday in a traffic collision on state Highway 12 in Fairfield, police said.

The cyclist, a Fairfield transient, was reportedly riding south on Beck Avenue against a red traffic signal, trying to cross Highway 12 on a green light.

A car driven by a Suisun resident was traveling east on Highway 12 with a green traffic signal, police said.

The driver remained at the scene and cooperated with police, who received reports of the collision at 6:33 p.m. Alcohol and drugs are not suspected to have played a role in the collision, police said.

The victim was pronounced dead at the scene.

Highway 12 was closed between Beck and Pennsylvania avenues for several hours during an investigation by members of the Fairfield Police Department's Major Accident Investigation Team.

A separate, non-fatal collision also took place Tuesday on the opposite side of Highway 12, a Fairfield police dispatcher said.
