My First Blog

The task of writing your first blog is intregingly quite daunting.  When invited to do this I have to say I was really quite excited.  I always seem to have plenty to say and love to share my thoughts with anyone who will listen, but the more I thought about it, the more "busy" I became: What will people think?  Will they like what I have to say? What happens if someone disagrees?  All these thoughts ran through my mind.  Ultimately I overcame, evidenced by the very fact that you are now reading my first blog.

I think the consept of overcoming mountains in our life is a great place to start for me.  Having moved over to the USA from England close to 18 years ago there have been many things I have had to overcome.  Feelings of seperation from my entire family, the adjustment to a very different life in a country that has now become home.  I have however covercome thanks to my faith in a God who promised never to leave me and never to forsake me, even in my darkest days and even when I turned so conciously away from Him.  I am blessed with an "American" family, a wife who loves me when I don't deserve it and children who bless me with their smiles, their accomlishments great and small and an unconditional love I pray they see modeled in my wife and I.

I feel blessed to be a part of this incredible community.  Having arrived here less than a year ago I have felt embraced, welcomed and even appreciated at times which is hard to fathom.  For those of you who don't know who I am, I am tasked with the humbling responsibility, along with my wife, of opening and operating the new Kroc Center in Suisun City which will replace the former YMCA which closed abruptly a number of years ago.  What will rise out of the faded burnt orange exterior of Suisun's forgotten gem will be a magnifcent example of overcoming.  

What once struggled to exist will soon flourish under the leadership of an Army that doesn't quit and a team that will always place the needs of the community front and center.  We have overcome a lack of adequate funds and secured the resources to build a magnificent center that will serve the needs of this community for decades to come.  We have overcome a perception that we can't get this done and brought to Suisun City the largest charitable gift this community has ever seen.  The result will be a place where lives are transformed.  A place where to work out in state of the art surroundings, a place where education will be the highest priority and a place where hope will abound. 

This has the potential of being one fo the most exciting journey's I have ever taken.  I hope you will join me on the road to an amazing future.  I hope you read with elation every time we take another step forward in building a life transforming community gather place.  Join me as build something our community can be proud of.  Let's overcome the odds and build an even greater community.
