Citizen Call Ends In Arrest Of Alleged Drunk Woman With Gun: Cops

"Fortunately every round was loaded backwards," police said.

FAIRFIELD, CA – A Solano County woman was arrested over the weekend for suspected public intoxication and illegal possession of a firearm -- including a magazine with every round loaded backward -- after a call to police from a concerned citizen, according to authorities.

Officers were called Saturday at 6:45 p.m. to a business on the 1300 block of Travis Boulevard in Fairfield after an "alert citizen" reported a female, who appeared to be intoxicated, removed a small, semi-automatic handgun from her purse, placed it on the company's counter, then put it back in her handbag and left the business, said the Fairfield Police Department, noting that the caller said the individual did not threaten anyone with the gun.

Responding officers stopped the suspect, later identified as Rocio Galindo Vargas, 27, who "appeared to be under the influence of alcohol," police said, adding that a search of her purse revealed a black Beretta .22-cal semi-automatic pistol, along with a loaded magazine recovered next to the handgun with "fortunately every round was loaded backwards!"

Vargas was booked into Solano County Jail for suspicion of illegal possession of a firearm and being intoxicated in public.

"Thanks to the quick response of an alert citizen, Fairfield Police Officers were able to remove one more illegally possessed firearm off our streets," the department said. "This is another great example of our community members working together with the men and women of the Fairfield Police Department."
