Fairfield Names New Police Chief

Breaking: City officials say that following a nationwide recruitment, the top candidate came from within its ranks.

FAIRFIELD, CA -- Randy Fenn has been named the new chief of police of the Fairfield Police Deparment, city officials announced Thursday. Fenn, who has been serving as the interim chief since March when Joseph Allio retired, has served in law enforcement for more than 25 years. He worked with departments in Concord and Truckee before joining the Fairfield Police Department in 2012 as a lieutenant, then moving up the ranks to captain in 2014.

"We conducted a nationwide search to find the best person to lead our police department forward, and to Fairfield’s great fortune the top candidate comes from within our ranks," said Fairfield City Manager David White. "Randy has already become a valued member of the city’s management team and has a genuine respect for community-oriented policing and government."

Fenn has a bachelor's degree in human relations and earned a distinction as a master of science in criminal justice.

"I look forward to continuing to work with the women and men of Fairfield Police Department and build on our reputation for partnering with our community to address public safety and quality of life issues," Fenn said. "It is especially gratifying for me to serve in the place where my family and I call home."

According to a city news release, "Fenn’s service in various size communities and in virtually every level of command, as well as his focused education provides the very experiences, knowledge and education that Fairfield is seeking. His service on nonprofit boards and professional committees help inform his broad view of issues and keen sense of fairness."
