Gas Leak On Travis Boulevard Impacts Traffic: Fairfield Police

The incident has been ongoing since Tuesday, with eastbound Travis Boulevard closed to through traffic.

FAIRFIELD, CA — A gas leak on Travis Boulevard was continuing to affect traffic Wednesday in Fairfield. Traffic controls and detours were expected to remain in effect until 3 p.m. Wednesday on eastbound Travis Boulevard at Jefferson Street, Fairfield police said.

Police first notified the community of the gas leak at about 4:50 p.m. Tuesday and said there were no evacuations in place but that traffic would be impacted until about 3 a.m. Wednesday.

However, with repairs taking longer than expected, motorists should continue to drive carefully through the area and expect traffic delays, Fairfield police Sgt. Matt Bloesch said in an update.

A PG&E spokesperson told Patch that although the leak was identified at about 1 p.m. Tuesday, PG&E had to pinpoint the source of the leak.

"We had to dig up part of the road to find where the leak was on the pipe," PG&E Spokeswoman Brandi Merlo told Patch at about 12:15 p.m. Wednesday. "We have started repairs but we don't have a solid time just yet for when the repairs will be completed."

The affected pipe is a 4-inch main distribution line, she said.

No customers have been impacted as far as gas service is concerned, Merlo noted.
