Lawler House To Host Opening Reception For '101 Little Things'

Reception to include live music, food and beverages

The will be hosting an opening night reception for its newest exhibit, “101 Little Things,” this Saturday. The reception will include live music by vocalist Kimberly Kenny, coffee from , wine from local vineyards, and a special treat for some of its attendees.

“Were giving the first 101 visitors a free ornament,” said Ken Chew, Lawler House Manager. “There will be some food and beverage and people will get to meet the artist there and it should be quite fun.”

Chew said the theme for the exhibit came from an observation of our culture and our, at times, fascination with the number 101.

“It’s funny how our society puts emphasis on 101,” he said. “They put 101 on a lot of things, like college courses, and 101 books, and 101 everything.”

Artists were given some flexibility to interpret the theme however they wanted, Chew said. Some used very small objects, while others used bigger items with smaller pieces within them. Artists have also created the ornaments that will be given to the reception’s first guests.

“As the art is coming in I see that we have a bunch of little art that is small in size, which of course, for the public, is good during this time of the year because of smaller sizes, smaller prices just for the holiday season,” he said.

Chew said artists’ interpretation varies widely. Though the theme is different from the large paintings and artwork the gallery usually holds, he believes the exhibit will be a nice, charming alternative. His artwork will also be featured with the exhibit and will be a collection of landscape painting of items that have to do with the Suisun Harbor.

“I emphasized the little in that I like to do landscape painting so I included three little landscape pieces and a fourth on that is a combination of five little pieces put together,” he said.

The opening reception for “101 Little Things” will be held this Saturday, November 5, from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Live music will be from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. Admission is free.
