Police: Fairfield Man Killed by Stepson Has History of Domestic Violence

A Fairfield man who was fatally stabbed by his stepson with a kitchen knife during a domestic violence incident with his wife over the weekend was arrested earlier this year for another domestic violence incident, a Fairfield police officer said.

“There is a history of domestic violence at the home,” Officer Cleo Mayoral said.

Police have not released the name of the 45-year-old man who was stabbed after he was involved in a physical altercation with his wife in their home in the 700 block of Overture Lane.

Police have not disclosed the time that the actual stabbing occurred, but they received a call around 6 a.m. Sunday from the man’s wife who requested an ambulance because she could not wake up her husband, Officer Cleo Mayoral said.

“It probably happened overnight,” Mayoral said.

Police responded and determined the husband died from an apparent stab wound inflicted by the wife’s son who feared for his mother’s safety, Mayoral said.

Mayoral said the stepson is between 10 and 12 years old, and his stepfather probably did not realize the seriousness of his injury.

“He was stabbed on the side under the arm pit and might have tried to take care of it himself,” Mayoral said.

No one called police during the domestic violence incident Saturday, Mayoral said.

“After carefully considering all the facts and evidence and discussing the case with both the Solano County District Attorney’s Office and Child Welfare Services, no arrests have been made at this time. The investigation is ongoing and any updates will be released at the appropriate time,” police said in a news release Monday.

“(Sunday‘s) events were tragic for everyone involved,” police said. “A wife lost her husband, a family lost a loved one and a child will forever have to live with the knowledge that someone died as a result of his actions,” police said.
