Solano County Man ID'd As Pedestrian Hit, Killed On I-880

The fatal collision happened early Friday morning on the freeway in South Fremont, near the Tesla factory.

BAY AREA, CA — A Solano County man has been identified as a pedestrian who was struck and killed early Friday morning on northbound Interstate Highway 880 near the Tesla factory in South Fremont. Alejandro Diaz, 28 of Fairfield, was fatally struck just south of S. Fremont Boulevard at 3:36 a.m., according to the California Highway Patrol and the Alameda County Coroner's Office.

CHP dispatchers initially received reports that a pedestrian was on the freeway near the Tesla factory, CHP Officer Manuel Leal said.

Moments later, dispatchers began receiving multiple calls "indicating the pedestrian had been struck by multiple vehicles and was down in the lanes of traffic," Leal said.

Responding CHP officers tried but were not able to locate any vehicles that may have been associated with the fatal collision, Leal said.

CHP did not give a possible reason as to why Diaz was on the freeway.

A Sig-Alert was issued for the fatal crash and all northbound lanes were closed as drivers were redirected off the highway.

All lanes were reopened at 6:46 a.m. Friday.

CHP was continuing its investigation of the crash and asked for the public's help in identifying any vehicle that may have been involved. Anyone with pertinent information should call the CHP's Hayward Area Office at 510-489-1500.
