Suisun American Little League Heading Toward TOC, All-Stars

The league has been slowly recovering from a break-in in late April.

Suisun American Little League is heading into the final stretch of its regular season on good terms after being the victim of a break-in towards the end of April.

“The season is going well. I think for the most part everyone is enjoying themselves,” league president Ted Scibek said. “It’s an exciting time of the year for us.”

The next three Saturdays will be busy. June 4 is Little League campout day. June 11 is the final day of the regular season and the 18th is the start of the Tournament of Champions.

Scibek said that the league suffered thousands of dollars in damage from stolen equipment and vandalism from the break-in. Equipment, including eight dozen baseballs, food from the snack bar and brand new catcher gear was stolen. The intruders also set off fire extinguishers inside the snack bar, meaning that the league had to dispose of contaminated utensils and food.

“It was a downer,” Scibek said. “That’s probably the most bummed I’ve ever been out there.”

In the weeks after the break-in, the league has installed an alarm system and parents have offered to install security cameras.

Scibek said the league is slowly recouping the financial losses.

“We tried but our only revenue is our snack bar,” he said. “What we do there depends on the revenue we get from there.”

Scibek said the league could always use a few extra hands.

“We always need the volunteers all the time for everything,” he said.

Scibek added that the league generally gets things done regardless.

“We cover everything that needs to get covered."
