Police And Fire 9/11 Dead Memorialized in Sculpture

Artist and former police officer Christine Golez describes a sculpture she made memorializing police officers and firefighters who died in the World Trade Center collapse.

The Sept. 11, 2001 attacks affected individual Americans in various ways. For Christine Golez, who was a Fairfield Police detective at the time, the attacks hit home in a way only police and firefighters know.

Public safety isn't just a job to many of its practitioners, it's a way of life and it's also a brother- and sisterhood.

As an artist, Golez used her creativity to work through the trauma of the attacks, creating several pieces of art.

One of her finest examples is a sculpture of the twin towers owned by the Fairfield Fire Department, called "As Others Ran Out, They Ran In," on display until October at Suisun City's .

The sculpture, on loan to the Lawler House Gallery, is back at its home at the main Farifield Fire Station for the week, then it will return to Lawler House until October, when it will go back to the fire station.
