Palauan Man Fatally Shot by California Police After Domestic Violence Standoff Involving Children (islandtimes.org) — Police in Susanville fatally shot a man after a domestic violence call on May 6 escalated into an armed standoff where a toddler was briefly held outside a second-story window. Body camera footage showed officers confronting a machete-wielding suspect, rescuing three children unharmed, and the district attorney has ruled the officers’ actions lawful.

CDFW rescues nearly 6,000 Eagle Lake rainbow trout stranded in Pine Creek (wonews.com) — Susanville-area anglers should know that wildlife officials recently rescued about 5,800 adult Eagle Lake rainbow trout from Pine Creek and returned them to Eagle Lake, helping protect this unique local fishery. The March–April operation involved more than 25 CDFW staff and community volunteers, and supports both future spawning runs and the current trout season that opened May 23.

Marvin Lynn Benner – May 14, 2026 (susanvillestuff.com) — Susanville is mourning the passing of longtime resident Marvin Lynn Benner, a devoted member of Susanville Christian Fellowship whose roots and stories were deeply tied to the community. Raised in Susanville and proud of his Native heritage, he spent decades working on the Lassen National Forest and leaves behind a large, loving family and many local friends.
