1 Dead In Shooting Near Vail Lake Resort

TEMECULA, CA — A man died Wednesday in a shooting near Vail Lake Resort east of Temecula, but the circumstances were unclear.

The fatality was reported at about 10:40 a.m. in the 38000 block of Highway 79, according to the Riverside County Sheriff's Department.

"It's still very hectic down there," Sheriff's Sgt. Deanna Pecoraro told City News Service. "There's a lot going on, so we don't have many details at this point. The investigation is developing."

In a social media post, the sheriff's department said there was no danger to the public.

County fire personnel had been called to the location, but were asked to stage at the front entrance of the resort until deputies ensured the area was secure.

When paramedics arrived, they confirmed that the victim, whose identity was not immediately known, was deceased, according to reports from the scene.
