1. 2 Brush Fires In RivCo Break Out Amid Heat Advisory Wednesday (patch.com) — Residents near Temecula saw a small brush fire break out in the Rainbow area east of I-15, while another blaze ignited near Moreno Valley, both during a regional heat advisory. Cal Fire crews from Riverside and San Diego counties quickly stopped each fire at about an acre, with no structures threatened and containment wrapped up early Wednesday afternoon.
2. 11th Annual Cowboy Jubilee Returns To Galway Downs, In Support Of Nature Foundation (patch.com) — Temecula locals can look forward to the 11th Annual Cowboy Jubilee returning to Galway Downs on Sept. 19, supporting nature education for Southwest Riverside County students. The evening in Temecula features equestrian performances, live country music, dinner, open bar, and fundraising activities, with tickets sold online in advance only.
3. Injury Crash East Of Temecula Blocks Roadway For Hours (patch.com) — Drivers in the Temecula area may have faced delays Wednesday morning after a semi-truck and Subaru collided on Sage Road near Red Mountain Road, east of Lake Skinner. One person suffered minor injuries, but major vehicle damage required offloading the truck's cargo and kept the roadway blocked for hours before it reopened around 10 a.m.
4. National anthem now required at Temecula home sports games (pressenterprise.com) — If you attend home games at Temecula Valley schools, you'll now hear the national anthem before every junior varsity and varsity contest. The school board unanimously approved a policy requiring the anthem at all home events, while stressing participation is voluntary and students can't be disciplined for opting out as long as they don't disrupt others.
5. Murrieta Council Joins With Temecula In Opposition Of Golden Pacific Powerlink Proposed Route (patch.com subscription) — Temecula residents are at the center of a growing regional fight over SDG&E's proposed Golden Pacific Powerlink, a massive 500-kilovolt line that would run through the city on tall steel towers. Murrieta's council has now formally joined Temecula, Mt. San Jacinto College, and Riverside County in opposing the current Segment 4 route, citing wildfire, visual, economic, and evacuation concerns as regulators prepare for years of environmental review.
