MOVIE REVIEW: 'Karaoke Man'

Comic book artist by day, karaoke man by night gets the courage to ask out his love by wearing a super hero costume.

For movie lovers like myself, it feels we are stuck in a recycling period.

By that, I mean there seems to be a dearth of interesting, original scripts, and so we keep recycling the same stories over and over again.

I'm happy to say that my expectations were pleasantly blown with this new romantic comedy, "Karaoke Man."

Mike Petty and Kevin Guzowski wrote a fantasticly entertaining new screenplay, with a talented ensemble cast of rising stars.

We meet Louis (played by Brian Dietzen of NCIS), a mild-mannered comic book artist by day whose life takes an interesting upturn when he meets a lovely, free-spirited singer-songwriter named Glynnis (Caitlyn Crosby).

She works as a host at the local karaoke bar owned by Slim (James Denton of Desperate Housewives). In an attempt to impress Glynnis, Louis decides he will give karaoke siniging a shot, but his voice -- and nerves -- just won't cooperate.

At the advice of his wise but slightly eccentric father (masterfully played by Mark Evan Jackson), he musters up courage by wearing a super hero suit.

This corny kind of courage actually works, and sparks fly between these two very different people. I actually left the theater smiling. Thank you Mike, Kevin and team for giving us a smart and funny new film.
