Coronavirus Update For Riverside County: Uptick Continues

Twenty-nine new hospitalizations were reported over the weekend.

RIVERSIDE COUNTY, CA — Coronavirus cases in Riverside County increased by 870 over the weekend, with three additional deaths also reported Monday, along with an uptick in hospitalizations.

The total number of COVID-19 infections recorded since the public health documentation period began in early March is 68,920, compared to 68,050 on Friday, according to the Riverside University Health System. The number of verified patient recoveries is 61,421.

The agency reported 179 COVID-positive hospitalizations, up 29 since the end of last week, and that includes 43 intensive care unit patients, 10 more than Friday.

Officials said the number of deaths tied to COVID-19 stands at 1,322, up from 1,319 on Friday.

The county's coronavirus positivity rate announced last Tuesday by the state is 5.6 percent. The daily COVID-19 case rate is 10.1 new infections per 100,000 population under the California Department of Public's Health criteria.

The state releases the metrics each Tuesday. Due to Election Day, the regularly scheduled Blueprint tier assignment update for this week has been moved from Tuesday to Wednesday.

Based on the 10.1 case rate, as well as the testing rate of 221.6 tests per 100,000 population, the county is ineligible to move back into the red tier. The state's testing rate threshold for large counties is 239.21 per 100,000.

For months, the county has urged residents to get tested for the virus. Recently, county officials have announced mobile clinics to bring testing to more communities. Find more information here.

The county was moved back into the purple tier on Oct. 20. It is the most restrictive under the state's color-coded coronavirus regulatory framework, meaning some businesses that had reopened in recent weeks were required to move their operations outdoors or close again. The designation impacts gyms, restaurants, movie theaters, places of worship, zoos and museums.
