Earthquake Rattles Temecula Valley: Did You Feel It?

TEMECULA, CA — A 4.4 magnitude earthquake rolled through the Temecula Valley on Tuesday evening, followed by several aftershocks and another moderate temblor. The first, big shaker hit at 6:24 p.m. local time, according to the U.S.G.S.

The U.S. Geological Survey reports the quake was centered:

  • 4.3 mi ENE of Aguanga
  • 9.3 mi NNE of Palomar Observatory
  • 9.3 mi SW of Anza
  • 28.6 mi SSW of Palm Springs
  • 29.2 mi NNE of Escondido

Within minutes of the earthquake, 2.2-magnitude, a 2.3-magnitude, a 2.0-magnitude and a 1.9 magnitude were among the dozen aftershocks recorded by the U.S.G.S., data shows.

The second, moderate quake — a magnitude-3.0 — struck 29 minutes after the 4.4 in the same general area, the USGS reported.

Residents throughout the Temecula, Murrieta, Lake Elsinore, Winchester and Hemet areas felt the first temblor, according to the U.S.G.S. 'did you feel it?' application.
