Fatal Southbound I-15 Crash At Gopher Canyon Rd Stalls Morning Traffic

The I-15 drive into San Diego from Temecula was slow for commuters due to the Wednesday morning crash, CHP says.

TEMECULA, CA — Wednesday morning commuters were stuck in I-15 freeway traffic after a fatal collision at Gopher Canyon Road, California Highway Patrol reported. A 24-year-old man died in the rollover crash, the California Highway Patrol reported.

Just after 5 a.m. Wednesday, the driver of a grey GMC Sierra pickup heading southbound on Interstate 15, just north of Gopher Canyon Road, veered off of the freeway, causing the truck to overturn, according to the CHP.

The passenger, a 24-year-old from Moreno Valley who remains unidentified, died at the scene of the crash.

The driver of the GMC, also from Moreno Valley, did not report any injuries, the CHP said.

It was unclear what caused the collision. There was no indication that alcohol and or drugs were a factor in the crash, and it was unclear if the rainy weather was a factor.

The investigation is ongoing, according to the CHP.
