Fire Crews Determine Cause of Explosion That Rocked Murrieta Apartment Complex
Fire officials say they had to briefly evacuate a local apartment complex after the explosion this week.

Murrieta fire officials said Thursday that a pressurized aerosol can is to blame for an explosion at a local apartment complex.
According to Murrieta Fire Captain Matt Corelli, the department was sent to The Silverado Apartments near the area of Vista Murrieta at Los Alamos roads on Wednesday night.
“Upon crews arriving, smoke was seen coming from an apartment,” Corelli said in a news release. “Immediate evacuations were completed by firefighters of nine units adjacent to the unit where the explosion occurred.”

After the 16 firefighters on scene doused the fire in the unit where the fire started, they were soon able to track down the cause.
“Fire investigators determined the explosion resulted from a pressurized aerosol can that was placed in the refrigerator to eliminate odor being ignited by electrical components on the inside of the appliance,” the captain said. “The explosion completely destroyed the refrigerator and resulted in a fire to the kitchen area of the apartment.”

Fortunately, no one was in the apartment when the explosion occurred and no injuries were reported in the incident. Damages were estimated at $50,000, according to Corelli.
