Firefighters Get Upper Hand On Winchester Brush Fire

WINCHESTER, CA — A 10-acre brush fire that broke out Monday in Winchester has been halted.

Dubbed the Elliot fire, the blaze was reported at 11:52 a.m. in the 34100 block of Elliot Road. Initial reports from Cal Fire/Riverside County Fire Department indicated the blaze was burning "in light, flashy fuels at a critical rate."

Around 12:30 p.m., the department advised "forward spread stopped. Resources will remain on scene for mop-up. No injuries reported. The cause of the fire is under investigation."

A helicopter, two air tankers and more than 100 firefighters were at the scene, according to the agency.

There were no immediate reports of structure damage and no evacuations were ordered.
