First-Ever Democratic Women's Summit Coming to Temecula

Leading the Pack: Women in Local Politics Promises to Bring Local Female Candidates and Voters Together

TEMECULA, CA- During a watershed moment in American history when more women than ever before are running for elected office, five local female candidates will team up to host a first-of-its-kind political summit in Temecula. The participating candidates, Regina Marston (CD-42), Joy Silver (CA SD-28), Kate Schwartz (CA AD 75), Courtney Sheehan (County Supervisor District 3), and Melissa Bourbonnais (County Supervisor District 1) will host Leading the Pack, a women’s political expo taking place on February 9th from 1:00pm to 3:30pm at the Ronald H. Roberts Public Library. The event will feature both a panel discussion on the challenges and triumphs of being a woman in politics as well as an open question and answer session geared toward presenting the candidates’ policy positions.

Event organizer and candidate Courtney Sheehan says, “This is a momentous occasion in our political process; as women, we are finding each other and finding a support system among ourselves while we navigate the intricacies of campaigning. Some of us have never had a mentor to guide us so we are breaking the glass ceiling by innovating strategies that work for us; coming together for this public event is one of those innovations.” Candidate Bourbonnnais says, "Empowered women empower women and I'm proud to further that within our local political process”.

The event’s discussion topics will focus on issues unique to women while running for office, such as unwanted sexual harassment while on the campaign trail, voter attitudes toward female candidates, childcare concerns, and power dynamics in political races. Tickets are free to the general public. Campaign merchandise will be available for purchase and donation platforms will be offered.
