Hurkey Creek Park Beautification Project Gets Supervisor Approval

The Hurkey Creek Park Beautification Project will fix landscaping, improve the restrooms, add play features and provide needed maintenance.

IDYLLWILD, CA — Funding for improving Hurkey Creek was approved by the Riverside County Board of Supervisors Tuesday. The county park, considered an idyllic getaway in Riverside County’s mountains, will get updated amenities, Supervisor V. Manuel Perez said.

The Hurkey Creek Park Beautification Project will fix landscaping, improve the restrooms, and provide needed maintenance, such as painting the picnic tables, adding an icemaker, and adding more horseshoe pits, according to Perez.

Like many in the area, Perez grew up going to Hurkey Creek and still visits frequently, he said. The proposed project will improve visits for the many families who spend time there.

“Hurkey Creek was a place we went to for vacation as a kid with our tíos, tías and cousins,” said Supervisor Perez. “And for many folks, especially on the east side, we like going there, it’s only an hour drive up the 74. So I’m very proud of the fact that we are making this investment here and building up Hurkey Creek for more generations.”

Hurkey Creek is located off Highway 74 in the San Jacinto Mountains. The Riverside County Regional Park and Open-Space District maintain and operate the facility.
