UPDATE: Murdered Man in Temecula Was Likely Stabbed to Death: Sheriff's Department

Sheriff's officials say the man's body was found near a business off Temecula Parkway.

TEMECULA, CA- One person is in custody as sheriff's homicide investigators look into the death of a man whose body was found in a field near a local business center, officials tell Patch.

According to Riverside County Sheriff's Deputy Mike Vasquez, the man was found Tuesday, around 10 p.m. in the 44000 Block of Bedford Court. At first, officials thought it was just an unattended death investigation, but soon turned their focus to the possibility that it was a murder.

"Officers from Temecula PD got a call of a male down in the area," Vasquez told Patch Wednesday morning. "They got there and did in fact find a male who was suffering from injuries from an unknown object and pronounced him deceased."

"A trail of evidence from the scene led officers to a restaurant and hotel complex located on the 29000 block of Old Town Front Street," he said. "While searching the complex, officers located a male adult and his female companion and both were detained."

The man was ultimately arrested and booked into the Murrieta jail on suspicion of murder, according to Clear.

"This investigation is on-going and his identity will be withheld until addition statements are obtained," he said. "The victim’s identity is being withheld pending notification to family."

In that area, a Mobil gas station, Circle K, Carl's Jr. and 7-Eleven are all located, but it wasn't immediately clear where the man was found.
