Military Academy Deadline Looms: Southwest RivCo Students, Grads

SOUTHWEST RIVERSIDE COUNTY, CA — College-bound Southwest Riverside County residents who have an interest in attending one of the nation's federal military academies are urged to submit a "nomination form" to their local congressional representative.

Congressional representatives each year are permitted to nominate 10 prospects to attend four of the five service academies, which are the U.S. Air Force Academy, the Merchant Marine Academy, the Naval Academy and the Army West Point. The Coast Guard Academy does not require a nomination, only an application.

Service academy applicants must be U.S. citizens, at least 17 and no more than 23 years old, as well as unmarried and have no child support obligations.

Rep. Darrell Issa (R-Temecula) is accepting Military Academy Nomination forms from pending or recent high school graduates who live in his 50th Congressional District. The district includes part of Temecula and nearby areas. See a 50th Congressional District map here.

"Nominating esteemed young men and women to attend one of the U.S. military service academies is a great honor," Issa said. "These students will be the leaders of tomorrow who answer the call of their country and volunteer to stand in service to America."

To receive a Military Academy Nomination form from Issa's office, email academy.CA50@mail.house.gov. Information regarding the vetting process can be found at https://issa.house.gov/services/military-academy-nominations. The deadline for 50th District applicants is 4 p.m. Oct. 29.

For Southwest Riverside County residents who live in Congressional District 42 represented by Ken Calvert (R-Corona), Military Academy Nomination forms are being accepted through Nov. 1.

Calvert represents Canyon Lake, Corona, Lake Elsinore, Menifee, Murrieta, parts of Temecula, Wildomar and other nearby areas. See a 42nd Congressional District map here.
