SOUTHWEST RIVERSIDE COUNTY, CA — Riverside County Supervisor Chuck Washington, whose District 3 includes Murrieta and Temecula, has been elected to serve as a top leader of a lobbying group that represents California’s 58 counties at the state and federal levels.

In a motion approved by county supervisors from across the state, Washington was selected as the 2022 first vice president of the California State Association of Counties. He will ascend to the role of CSAC president in 2023.

In addition to being named first vice president, Washington was honored with CSAC’s Circle of Service award during the annual meeting. Given to county supervisors who performed exemplary work on behalf of CSAC, the Circle of Service award was presented to Washington for his role as co-chair of the association's Broadband Working Group. The group was influential in Governor Newsom’s decision to sign a series of bills investing $6 billion in broadband infrastructure, according to CSAC.

"Riverside County deserves a seat at the table when the state and federal governments make important decisions that affect our residents," Washington said. "In my role as first vice president, I will continue advocating for legislation that serves the best interests of Riverside County residents, especially as it pertains to equitable access to low-cost broadband."

As a lobbying group, CSAC is supported through dues and other fees from member counties.

"CSAC is a trusted broker of information about the effects of state laws on counties and helps develop and communicate policies that directly impact the programs and services provided by California’s counties," according to the association's website. "We communicate our positions to the Legislature, Governor’s office, agencies, commissions, and other state bodies through testimony, letters, and meetings. Likewise, we analyze and report to counties about important decisions made at the state and federal levels."

Washington is the elected supervisor of Riverside County’s Third District that includes Murrieta, Temecula, Hemet, San Jacinto, and the unincorporated areas of Idyllwild, Pine Cove, Anza, Aguanga, Homeland, French Valley, and Winchester.
