Elderly Man Hit As Person Drives Onto Temecula Curb: Police

UPDATED: Sheriff's officials say the person suffered major injuries Friday.

TEMECULA, CA — A man walking near a popular Temecula shopping center was hit by a car Friday morning, sheriff's officials tell Patch. The unidentified victim suffered major injuries and was rushed to the hospital.

According to sheriff's Deputy Michael Vasquez, the incident happened around 10:30 a.m. in the area of Margarita Road and Overland Drive. A man in his 80s was struck by a man in his 20s in a Ford Mustang.

"The driver drove into oncoming traffic and went onto the curb where a pedestrian was struck," Vasquez said.

Images from the scene showed the car — with a broken windshield — ended up in a ditch after the wreck.

Vasquez said officials were still on scene as of 12:15 p.m. investigating the crash. The area was expected to remain closed while that investigation continued.

"We're still working to determine why this person drove onto the curb," he said.

The driver of the car was not hurt, he said.
