RivCo Couple Charged $30,000 For Uber Ride
Even surge pricing couldn't explain why an Uber ride to the airport could cost $30,000.
RIVERSIDE COUNTY, CA — A Riverside County couple's $30,000 Uber ride to the airport took the scourge of surge pricing to a whole new stratosphere this summer.
What was supposed to be an anniversary vacation in Central America for Douglas Ordonez and Dominique Adams, turned into a nightmare when Adams was charged $30,000 for her Costa Rican Uber ride to the airport to meet up with her husband, KTLA reported.
The outrageous fare apparently stems from a botched conversion of ₡30,000 Costa Rican Colones into dollars.

"I was absolutely shocked," Adams told Newsweek. "My heart sank."
If converted correctly, the ride should have costed just a little over $50.

The costly mistake left the Riverside residents on edge, without access to their funds and forced to postpone their vow renewal, Adams told reporters.
“The bank was blaming Uber, and Uber was blaming the bank,” Adams told KTLA. “We were both distraught, stuck in limbo, feeling like there’s nothing we could do.”
While the bank reversed the charges after several days, Adams contends Uber never even responded.
