Roadways Closed Due To Flooding: Riverside County

RIVERSIDE COUNTY, CA — A road just east of Temecula was submerged Friday in flood waters, making it impassable and is just one of several roadways in the Riverside County region now closed because of standing water or damage from the storm series that began earlier in the week.

The county Department of Transportation closed Joseph Road at Nicolas Road shortly after 8 a.m. because a segment of the quarter-mile stretch was impacted by heavy rain in the predawn hours.

It's unclear when the road might be re-opened.

On Tuesday, the following three arteries were shut down because of downpours that triggered flooding and washouts:
-- Bridge Street, between Fernandez and Gilman Springs roads, in Nuevo;
-- Leon Road, between Domenigoni Parkway and Olive Avenue, just east of Menifee; and
-- Pico Avenue, between Central Avenue and Nuevo Road, just east of Perris.

The corridors were expected to remain out of service until the waters recede and repairs are made, officials said.

Alternate routes are available to detour around the closures.

According to the National Weather Service, additional precipitation is expected in the Inland Empire Friday, but the bulk of the storm system will rotate eastward and exit the area by Friday evening.
