Smell Smoke in Temecula? 800 Acre Fire Burns Nearby

TEMECULA, CA — A cloud of drift smoke blew into Southwest Riverside County on Wednesday afternoon, turning the skies sepia-toned and ashy. The cause? An 800-acre fire is burning in San Diego County.

At about 1:30 p.m., smoke from the San Diego Camp Pendleton area fire blew in, according to the South Coast Air Quality Management District.

A smoke advisory was issued for areas surrounding the north County blaze, dubbed the November Fire. It sparked around 10 a.m. in the southern part of the military base, a few miles northeast of Interstate 5, according to Cal Fire.

San Diego County Air Pollution Control District issued a smoke advisory for the communities of Camp Pendelton, Oceanside, Bonsall and Fallbrook. That smoke has also blown into Southwest Riverside County.

A southwest wind was expected to continue blowing through the evening, pushing that smoke into the area. No air quality reports have been added to SWR as of 2 p.m.

Still, in areas with heavy smoke from the fire, air quality is expected to range from unhealthy for sensitive groups to unhealthy for all individuals, according to the district. Where smoke impacts are lighter, conditions may vary from moderate to unhealthy for sensitive groups.
