TEMECULA, CA — The Temecula Chick-Fil-A is closed for business for the foreseeable future as the restaurant gears up to serve more chicken.

This week, Chick-Fil-A closed its Promenade Temecula restaurant at 40531 Margarita Road in order to make some massive improvements. A spokesperson for the chain tells Patch the company will remain fully closed until at least the end of May.

That projected reopening date is not set in stone, however, barring delays in construction.

During the pandemic, drive-thru lines at the popular chicken restaurant became almost insurmountable for families looking for sandwiches, waffle fries and lemonade. Though lines were managed by workers, the double-rows of snaking cars made for tough driving in the area.

The traffic jams would be made even tougher for the newcomer mall restaurant, Tacos & Beer, expanding in the space of the former El Torito.

The approved restaurant plans show improved landscaping, drive-thru lines and a kitchen expansion, enabling the restaurant to serve more residents.

The modification application will allow the fast-food restaurant to relocate its existing trash enclosure, add building square footage and make some water-wise landscaping improvements, according to the city of Temecula.

City-approved plans show how the restaurant will be "reconfiguring" its drive-thru to accommodate the increased amounts of traffic for residents seeking chicken.

Chick-Fil-A is also adding approximately 334 square feet to its existing structure.

"The extra square footage will be applied to the kitchen area," according to the city.

Moving the trash enclosure will allow for a "dual-lane drive-thru." The new trash enclosure will be "architecturally integrated" with the original building, according to the city.

The drive-thru expansion and enlarged kitchen are designed to decrease wait times for customers, according to officials.
