TEMECULA, CA — The speed limit along a stretch of Vail Ranch Parkway will be dropped from 45 to 40 miles per hour, following a vote by the Temecula City Council.

The Valley News first reported the change, approved in a 4-0 vote with one abstention at the city council's Oct. 8 meeting. It lowers the speed limit on Vail Ranch Parkway between Nighthawk Pass and Redhawk Parkway.

The change was part of a city review of the speed limits on 19 road segments whose speed limits were most recently updated in 2013. The city is required by the California Vehicle Code to review its speed limits every seven years, The Valley News reported.

The city council has recently implemented other "traffic calming" measures for Vail Ranch Parkway, including narrowing the road to one lane in each direction and adding a school crosswalk.
