Temecula Dog Wins 'Best in Show' at 2016 Westminster Competition

The German Shorthaired Pointer and his human live in Temecula.

TEMECULA, CA- Temecula is home to many things, and now it can add another honor to that list. We’re living in the company of the 2016 ‘Best in Show,’ as determined by the almighty judges at the 140th Westminster Kennel Club Dog Show.

California “CJ” Journey, a German Shorthaired Pointer, was crowned the winner Tuesday night, live from Madison Square Garden in New York City. He had gone up for the prize against a borzoi hound, a bulldog and a shih tzu in the final round, out of more than 2,700 initial contestants.

“He was born for this,” his owner, Valerie Nunes-Atkinson, told Reuters after he won best in the sporting group. “There’s something special about him.”

Following his win, the three-year-old dog will have the chance to follow in the paw-steps of his predecessors, and dine on a fine meal at New York’s Sardi’s in Times Square.
