Size
According to the American Kennel Club (AKC), the German Shorthaired Pointer will remain medium sized. It’s the 12th most popular breed in the US.
The AKC describes the dog as an “aristocratic, well balanced, symmetrical animal with conformation indicating power, endurance and agility.”

General Attributes of the German Shorthaired Pointer
The breed is very intelligent, obedient and an excellent hunting dog. The AKC calls it “a versatile hunter, an all-purpose gun dog capable of high performance in field and water.” Its average life expectancy is 13 years.
Average Cost
A puppy from a reputable breeder averages $550. One from a rescue organization averages under $200. If you get a GSP, the most common puppy names for females are Abby, Lily and Diamond. For males: Aang, Marley and Buddy.
