TEMECULA, CA — Temecula Valley hospital officials recently celebrated an important milestone. On July 25, construction workers "topped out" the hospital's first floor expansion project.

According to the hospital, the project includes two catheterization (cath) labs, seven post-anesthesia care unit (PACU) bays, seven pre/post-operative care bays, a neuro biplane room, an endovascular hybrid operating room, a new CT scanner and a community room for educational presentations and events.

"These additions will help TVH better meet the needs of the growing community and allow the hospital to bring advanced care to residents," the hospital said.

Here's more about the ceremony:

The history of the Topping Out ceremony seems to have humble beginnings in Scandinavian cultures. The first topping out ceremonies occurred on much smaller scale projects in Holland but the events evolved as construction and societies changed over time. Ironworks are credited with giving the Topping Out ceremony its name to highlight the moment the last steel or structure is put in place. The practice tracks closely with that of other commemorative events similar to mountain climbers reaching the highest peak or astronauts landing on the moon. As with climbers and astronauts, with the topping out ceremony we symbolically affix a flag to the highest point of the structure. The greenery may symbolize the hope that this building will be everlasting as a tree.
