Temecula Walmart Stabbing Suspect Released From Jail

The suspect spent one night behind bars.

TEMECULA, CA — A man accused of fatally stabbing another outside a local Walmart is now free on bond, two days after the alleged attack. James Beckham Fortney, 40, was released from the Cois M. Byrd Detention Center in French Valley sometime Thursday upon posting $100,000 bond, jail records show.

Forney was booked a day earlier on suspicion of voluntary manslaughter for the death of 19-year-old Kevin Rodriguez.

The two men allegedly got into an altercation outside the Walmart property, but the fight continued onto the parking lot. Rodriguez was stabbed in the lot, close to the front entrance, according to witness reports.
