• Obscure American Artists 1956-1963, Teen 257 (blogspot.com) — Back in the late 1950s, a Thousand Oaks father built a home recording studio for his three young daughters, who went on to release several singles as the Gino Sisters. Their local garage setup quietly linked Thousand Oaks to the early teen doo-wop and rock scene, even featuring guitar work from Eddie Cochran on one release. 
• Mountain lion kitten abandoned in Thousand Oaks undergoes amputation (vcstar.com) — A rescued mountain lion kitten found near Thousand Oaks earlier this year is recovering well after veterinarians decided to amputate one of his injured hind legs. Now called Crimson and living at the Oakland Zoo, he’s active, playful, and awaiting a permanent home while researchers continue long-term studies of local pumas in Ventura and Los Angeles counties.
