📰 News we're reading

1. Beyond Visalia: Student Resource at Hanford and Tulare Campuses (thecampusjournal.com) — Students in Tulare have more than just classes at the Tulare College Center, with expanded math and science labs, STEAM-focused tutoring, and a busy Welcome Center offering help with admissions, financial aid, and campus navigation. Alongside similar support at the Hanford campus, Tulare students can also access food assistance, childcare connections, and referrals for housing, transportation, and mental health services.

2. Tulare Agri-Center Interchange set to open on Friday (thesungazette.com) — Tulare drivers will soon have a new way onto Highway 99, as the International Agri-Center interchange at Commercial Avenue opens Friday afternoon, Sept. 18. Funded by a mix of local Measure R, state, federal, and private dollars, the project aims to ease congestion on Tulare streets and improve east‑west movement of traffic and goods through the city.

3. 2026 Tulare County Fair kicking off with family fun (abc30.com) — Tulare residents can head to the Tulare County Fair starting Wednesday, with all stage shows included in admission and plenty of free family entertainment. Expect music, stunt acts, animal shows, magic, livestock competitions, and classic fair food, plus a special Kids Day Thursday when children 12 and under get in free.

4. Fatal Pedestrian Crash on Hwy 99 near Ave 384 in Tulare County (legalexaminer.com) — A man was struck and killed Friday night while walking in traffic on northbound Highway 99 just south of Avenue 384 in Tulare County, a rural stretch many local drivers use. Investigators are reviewing visibility, speed, and possible roadway issues, and the victim's family may have grounds for a wrongful death claim covering funeral costs and other losses.

5. Has the Yowlumni wolf pack vanished from California? (visaliatimesdelta.com) — Wildlife officials say Tulare County's Yowlumni wolf pack hasn't been detected since December and may soon be considered gone if no new sightings occur. Sarcoptic mange and the death of the breeding female likely devastated the group, while remaining wolves may have dispersed far beyond the southern Sierra areas that include eastern Tulare County.
