1 Dead In Union City Homeless Encampment Fire

The fire happened Wednesday night along the Union City-Fremont border.

UNION CITY, CA — One adult is dead following a fire in a a homeless encampment in Union City near the border with Fremont. The victim's name has not been released. No other injuries were reported.

The fire was reported around 8:30 p.m. Wednesday night at Isherwood Way and Quarry Lakes Drive. Alameda County firefighter put out the fire. They found the body once the flames were extinguished.

Fremont Police initially responded to the scene, but turned the case over to Unon City Police when it was determined that the burned encampment was a short distance inside the Union City limits.

Union City Police Detectives found that several people may have been in the area both before and after the fire.
