4 Arrests, 3 For DUI, During Union City Checkpoint

More than a dozen people received tickets for various violations, but some drivers received free gift cards to Advance Auto Parts.

UNION CITY, CA — Last Saturday night the Union City Police Department held a DUI and driver’s license checkpoint near the intersection of Alvarado-Niles Road and H Street. The location was chosen based on statistical data from DUI collisions and arrests.

According to UCPD:
• Over 900 vehicles were screened
• 3 drivers were arrested for DUI
• 3 were cited for driving with a suspended license
• 14 were cited for driving without a valid license
• 1 was arrested for a misdemeanor warrant
• 5 vehicles were towed

A nice bonus for drivers going through the checkpoint: UCPD provided gift cards to drivers to repair equipment violations found on their vehicles.

Officers from the Hayward Police Department, Newark Police Department and the CHP helped run the checkpoint.
