No 9/11 Remembrance In Union City This Year
After building a memorial to Flight 93, the heroes who died in PA rather than crashing in Washington, D.C. — annual ceremony canceled.

UNION CITY, CA — Union City built an amazing tribute to the men and women of Flight 93, who died in a nondescript field in Shanksville, Pennsylvania rather than crash on 9/11 in Washington, D.C. into... the White House? The capitol? Another plane hit the Pentagon that day, after two passenger jets took down the World Trade Centers in New York.
Flight 93 was delayed in its takeoff that morning. By the time it got going, the other tragedies were already unfolding.
If you were alive then, who can forget the phrase, "Let's roll!" It's the selfless utterance of Todd Beamer, who was on Flight 93 with an operator trying to reach his wife Lisa, mother of their two young sons. His daughter, Morgan was born in January 2002. Beamer and other passengers learned of the terror attacks and decided to take decisive action.

The City of Union City reports, 'The Flight 93 Memorial was completed and dedicated on December 8, 2007. Union City was the first city in the United States to create a memorial specifically for the heroes of Flight 93, before the national memorial in Shanksville, Pennsylvania was created. The memorial includes 40 granite stones bearing the names of the passengers and crew members along a path that begins at a "Circle of Remembrance." On the front side of the 40 stones is a polished stainless-steel mirror to reflect the viewer’s own image to signify that it could have been any one of us aboard Flight 93 that day. The back of the 40 remembrance stones were left unfinished to signify that the heroes had unfinished lives. The stones end at a "Circle of Hope," which contains an American flag that symbolizes the bravery and courage of the passengers and crew,as well as hand-painted tiles from local children that represents a hopeful future.'
The City of Union City has announced that it will no longer host an annual remembrance on 9/11. Instead, the city will host an observance every 5 years.
