Hayward’s Air Force aviation veteran Captain Mama Will Inspire at Airport Open House

WHO: Entrepreneur/Award-winning author, Cal alumna Graciela Tiscareño-Sato, the first Latina aviator in the U.S. Air Force to be awarded an Air Medal for combat air operations (over Iraq). Known as Captain Mama / Capitán Mamá in national airshow and school assembly circles, Graciela is a bilingual living-history STEM engagement performer who shares her unusual daughter-of-Mexican-immigrants-to-military-aviator journey through UC Berkeley and resources for HOW students can launch their own aviation careers too. See this Hometown Hero story for Graciela’s origin story.
WHERE: The Captain Mama space will be next to the Women in Aviation International booth by the airplanes, near the tower. Look for flight suits hanging from the canopy and kids dressing up as future aviators. WAI- San Francisco chapter President Ana Uribe is available for interviews too.
WHAT: See this TV feature from Sacramento to get an idea of the colorful, kid-centered, action-filled story local journalists can capture this weekend at the downtown festival and at the airport. The Captain Mama booth will be a bilingual author Meet-and-Greet activity. Captain Mama offers kids and teens a chance to dress up in her flight suits, answers questions about scholarships, college, military aviation service, and more. The author will be signing books and engaging with the public… bilingually.
WHY: Because military service has always been a huge part of Hispanic heritage (and Hispanic Heritage Month is THIS month and next), Captain Mama’s story represents that educated women bravely and competently also serve this nation in difficult, technical and exciting careers during peacetime and wartime.
Parents: Stop by to capture the colorful action of your children wearing real flights worn by an aviation veteran, watch your kids get inspired to fly and take photos with a local award-winning bilingual author.
Educators: Come meet Hayward’s own bilingual Latina military aviation veteran who’s created an award-winning small business to uplift communities in two languages and help millions more Americans to fall in love with aviation and military service: (Gracefully Global Group) – Tagline: “We’re in the business of inspiración” - creators of the first-ever, 11-time award-winning, bilingual children’s aviation book trilogy in which Mama is flying the airplane. Graciela is actively booking Hispanic Heritage Month school assemblies, creative-writing workshops all year, and Veterans Day assemblies in November.
